This Asian American Life
Kayan Cheung-Miaw's striking mural invites viewers to experience San Francisco's Chinatown through the eyes of a child, finding moments of beauty and wonder in the neighborhood's vibrant daily life. Commissioned for the Asian Art Museum's Hyde Street Art Wall, the work celebrates the sensory details that captivate young minds—from the flight of a bee to the aroma of noodles—while honoring the resilience, labor, and care woven throughout this working-class community. The mural is part of Cheung-Miaw's larger artistic practice documenting the stories of Chinatown's residents and the enduring Asian American experience in San Francisco.
