Arts of Indigenous America
Discover the richness and complexity of Indigenous American artistic traditions across more than a thousand years of history at the de Young Museum's expansive reinstallation of its arts collection. Developed collaboratively with Native scholars and community leaders, four reimagined galleries each explore different dimensions of "Relationship to Place," showcasing everything from ancestral Maya ceramics and Teotihuacan murals to contemporary works by Indigenous artists spanning the Americas. Featuring beloved pieces alongside fresh acquisitions and commissions, this groundbreaking presentation—the most significant update to the collection in two decades—centers Native voices and challenges perceptions of what Indigenous art encompasses, presenting ceramics, textiles, paintings, beadwork, carvings, and basketry in all their diverse forms.
