Nengi Omuku: The Gathering
Nigerian painter Nengi Omuku makes her US museum debut with an evocative body of work that transports viewers to verdant landscapes of healing and hope. Painted on traditional handwoven Yoruba textiles, her dreamlike compositions feature figures inhabiting lush forests and serene waterside scenes—spaces that represent possibility and care for young people in Lagos. The exhibition contextualizes her practice within the de Young's African art collection, creating a dialogue across centuries that celebrates humanity's enduring connection to nature, community, and ancestral knowledge.
