New Work: Raven Chacon

Pulitzer Prize–winning artist Raven Chacon centers Diné perspectives and Indigenous sovereignty in this groundbreaking West Coast solo presentation at SFMOMA. Through a major five-channel video installation combining Ray Bradbury's science fiction with archival footage from mid-20th century travelers, alongside topographical drawings linking Earth's Canyon de Chelly to the Martian landscape, Chacon reimagines Southwestern tribal lands as cosmic spaces that challenge colonial narratives. His multimedia work—featuring field recordings and original electronic compositions—disrupts conventional representations of history while exploring themes of territorial expansion, renaming, and the ongoing occupation of Native lands, inviting viewers to contemplate interconnected histories across time and space.
